Giving Activity

Mission

Our mission is to create equitable opportunities for our neighbors to be known, empowered, and inspired.

Our purpose is to be a catalyst for positive community transformation by promoting equality and economic opportunity for all within zip code 75228 in East Dallas.

Needs

“Keep Doing What You Do” - Our most pressing need is operating support. Providing operating support will help us keep the lights on and the programs running at Owenwood. Your unrestricted gift can also help us continue low cost space sharing for our nonprofit partners-in-residence, helping meet broader community needs and avoid duplicating existing services.

Diaper Distribution - Every month, we help meet the basic needs of families with small children by distributing diapers in collaboration with Hope Supply Co. However, the need of the community is higher than the generous amount of donations we are receiving, and funding is needed to sustain and continue the great work we are doing.

Food Pantry - Our community is located in a “food desert” where residents have limited access to affordable and nutritious food. While we have a longstanding partnership with North Texas Food Bank, our food distribution events occur only once a month. Your gift supporting Owenwood's new Food Pantry - coming soon! - will help keep our pantry stocked with nourishing food for neighbors in need. Help us fill the gaps between monthly food distributions with a donation toward building and stocking the Food Pantry.

At Owenwood, your dollar goes far! For example:

$10 = a month of yoga classes for a senior

$15 = a month of art classes for a senior

$20 = 2 emergency food boxes for 2 families

$30 = one month’s worth of diapers and sanitary products for a family

$30 = adult literacy classes to 10 adults per week for a month

With a monthly gift in these amounts, your gift can help sustain our vital programming all year!

Equity Statement

Owenwood Farm and Neighbor Space is committed to racial justice and equity through partnerships, programs, and people that reflect our collective work. Owenwood has prioritized empowering diversity of voice and experiences; while also working to dismantle domineering social power dynamics.

We are mindful of our community needs and hope to improve, innovate, and inspire work happening in Far East Dallas. We recognize this work is not done simply by addressing immediate needs in the community but also by practicing curiosity as we develop new opportunities reflective of the assets already present in the community.

To ensure our work is reflective of the needs and aspirations of the community, we focus our time on connecting with key stakeholders and organizational leaders in our communities. We welcome new ideas, thought partners, or innovators as we work to create a more equitable community for all that call Far East Dallas home.
